Lake Mead jobs gone after federal shutdown

Lake Mead National Recreation Area visitors will have until 3 p.m. today to leave the park, which was closed after a budget stalemate Tuesday shut down the government.
A Lake Mead statement said people who owned boats, trailers or cabins would be allowed into the park to remove their property. However, boats would not be allowed for recreational use within the park, and overnight stays are prohibited.
Programs and events, such as CAST for Kids, Slam the Dam Open Water Swim slated for Saturday and Friday’s The American Bass Association Fishing Tournament, have been canceled.
Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that three boat instructors lost their jobs at Callville Bay Marina. Other layoffs are expected.
