Ironman to race through Lake Mead Sunday

Around 2,000 athletes from around the world will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sunday for the Ironman 70.3 Silverman.

The race begins at 7 a.m. with a 1.2-mile swim at Boulder Beach where water temperatures are around 75 degrees. Athletes will then transition to their bicycles where they will continue through 40 miles of the park, along scenic Lakeshore and Northshore roads.

Cyclists will make a U-turn at mile marker 16.5 on Northshore to head back toward Lakeshore and exit the park at Lake Mead Parkway. The remainder of the race, including a 13.1-mile run, will conclude in Henderson.

During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving alongside cyclists.
