Saturday block party brings family activities to Bicentennial Park

A day of old-fashioned fun and family activities is planned for Saturday’s Old School Block Party.

To be presented by Pride in Purity, the event is being held in conjunction with VWs Invades the Dam Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Bicentennial Park, 999 Colorado St.

Activities will include arts and crafts, rummage sale, musical entertainment and informational booths, said Denise Ashurst, founder of the nonprofit Pride in Purity.

The idea behind the block party was to create a family-friendly atmosphere with activities and events that would appeal to people of all ages, she said.

Among the highlights will be a 35-family rummage sale, bowling pin painting, face painting, fingerprinting, and dads and daughters jump rope and hoop contests.

Megan Williams will provide musical entertainment and Danielle Kirby, the preteen winner in the 2014 Nevada Princess Pageant, will share her anti-bullying message.

Also scheduled to appear is a professional clown and there will be a raffle with a variety of prizes.

Admission is free and 100 Pride in Purity gift bags and bowling pins to paint will be given away.
