State veterans home earns award for customer satisfaction

The Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City has received Pinnacle Quality Insight's 2016 Customer Experience Award, administrator Linda Gelinger announced Tuesday.

In all, the veterans home earned 22 awards in 11 categories that include nursing care, overall satisfaction, cleanliness, activities, professional therapy services and safety/security.

"Receiving these 'best in class' awards for customer satisfaction, issued by Pinnacle, gives the home a ranking based on a nationwide comparison," Gelinger said.

The awards are presented to facilities that rank in the top 15 percent in customer satisfaction surveys among all of Pinnacle's post-acute health care clients, said Brady Carlsen, vice president of business development for the company that rates customer satisfaction.

Carlsen said all of the firm's approximately 1,800 clients are compared in 16 categories and those that are in the top 15 percent in each category receive the award. They are given annually and the veterans home has qualified for some Customer Experience Award for at least the past eight years, he added.

Gelinger said the award "displays a continued dedication to providing quality, professional health care services and activities programs to all of our residents."

A sampling of residents participate in monthly telephone interviews that include open-ended questions as well as the opportunity to rate the veterans home in specific categories. The results are then shared with the facility to better understand residents' needs and make improvements, Gelinger said.

State seeks top senior citizen

The search for Nevada's Senior Citizen of the Year began Monday.

The award recognizes a senior's significant contributions on the local, state, and/or national level, and by excellence achieved through going above and beyond the call of duty, specifically with respect to volunteer work in support of fellow senior citizens in the state.

The competition is open to all those who are age 60 and older and have lived in Nevada for five years.

The deadline for nominations is March 31. The award will be presented in May.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013.

The nomination guidelines and forms are available at www.nevshc.org or by calling 702-860-6349.
