National Weather Service issues excessive heat watch

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch from 11 a.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to be near 110 degrees and closer to 120 along the Colorado River from Laughlin, Nevada, and Bullhead City to Havasu City, Arizona.

The forecasted high for Sunday in Boulder City is near 105, with a low around 83. Monday is expected to be 111 but could be as high as 114.

The high temperatures can cause heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Those who spend a lot of time outdoors, as well as young children, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses and those without access to air conditioning, are most vulnerable, according to the weather service.

During the excessive heat watch people are advised to stay indoors, preferably in an air-conditioned space, as much as possible and to drink plenty of fluids.

Once temperatures hit triple digits on Sunday, Accuweather forecasts they will remain over 100 degrees for the remainder of the month.
