While many of us in Southern Nevada want to travel this time of year, many of the go-to places are now too cold, or covered too deeply with snow, to enjoy much time outdoors. But you won’t have that problem if you head down into the Sonoran Desert and Tucson, Arizona. Almost as far south as you can go in Arizona, winter weather there is luxuriously pleasant.
Boulder City Race Series Points/ Nevada State Championship 2017
With an undefeated 24-0 record, Boulder Dam Credit Union was crowned champion of the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department’s fall coed softball league.
Each day of our region’s short and mild winter is a little treasure to be invested for maximum return. A good place to invest it is in the Rock Spring Loop Trail on the Mojave National Preserve. It’s a short hike packed with natural and historic interest. You will see American Indian petroglyphs, the site of a 19th century Army post built to protect the famous old Mojave Road, a former mill site, a charming stone house with its own interesting history and the spring itself — the likely reason all the historic features are here.
The Bridge Spring Trail makes a great winter hike to a rare natural bridge in the Eldorado Mountains, south of Boulder City and near the small town of Nelson.
The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department held its annual Turkey Shoot on Nov. 14 and 15 at the recreation center.
The 1.6 million-acre Mojave National Preserve is only a bit more than an hour by car from Las Vegas, but it is a world apart, offering opportunity for solitude amid sweeping desert views of the east Mojave.
