Search continues for man missing at Lake Mead

Search and rescue crews are looking for a man who went missing Sunday afternoon at Lake Mead.

Lake Mead officials received a call about 1:30 p.m. about a man who jumped off a boat near the Boulder Basin but never resurfaced, according to the National Park Service.

A witness told the Park Service that the man was wearing a life jacket, but it came off when he jumped into the water.

Park rangers, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Nevada Wildlife Department responded to the scene and began searching for the man, officials said. They believe he is about half a mile from the shoreline in an area that is 8 to 160 feet deep.

Awards included those for a trio of lifesaving awards for members of BCFD as well as commendations and the chief’s award and firefighter of the year, which went to Jason Dardano. For the BCPD, awards included letters of commendation, meritorious service awards and volunteer of the year awards.

Although there is nothing on any city agenda yet, the resolution of the issue of whether pet breeding will be allowed in Boulder City took a huge step forward last week as Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford released an official opinion on the intent and limitations of state law that had been requested by city staff last year.
