Rain causes temporary road closures at Lake Mead

Flooding and storm damage has caused the temporary closure of Willow Beach and St. Thomas roads in Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

At Willow Beach, which is on Lake Mohave in Arizona, the rain washed mud, boulders and other debris across the access road making it impassable. Lake Mead NRA road crews are working to remove the debris. It is expected to reopen later today.

St. Thomas Road, which is near Overton, Nev., is a dirt road. It will be closed until the road dries out, making it more stable.

No injuries have been reported, and visitors have safely vacated the areas.
