Wine walks will resume Saturday evening

After a successful debut last year, the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce’s Best Dam Wine Walk returns Saturday to help boost the local economy.

“It totally fits the chamber’s mission of driving more business into our local businesses,” chamber CEO Jill Rowland-Lagan said. “It also really helps in the historic district for our locals to be able to walk into some storefronts they’ve never seen before.”

Rowland-Lagan said last year’s wine walks helped the chamber gain more members, and businesses were generally pleased with the amount of foot traffic they received because of them.

After patrons purchase a wine glass at the chamber, they make the rounds to local shops in downtown Boulder City. Rowland-Lagan said 24 to 26 businesses generally participate in each wine walk. Some serve wine, while others serve cheese, sangria, water or snacks.

Unlike last year’s wine walks, this year’s wine walks will be themed. Saturday’s theme is “Glow Walk,” where patrons wear glow necklaces, glow sticks and drink from glowing glasses.

Wine walks will take place on the second Saturday of May, June, September, October and December. Each walk, which runs from 4-8 p.m., will have a different theme.

Rowland-Lagan said businesses off Nevada Highway also are interested in participating, and talks of bringing in shuttles to take patrons to their businesses are being discussed. For now, they just set up tables outside of the chamber and pour wine for guests.

A portion of the wine walks funds are designated to help make improvements to organizations around Boulder City. Last year, $875 was allocated to community outreach, Rowland-Lagan said.

Wine glasses can be purchased at the chamber for $25 each or $45 per couple.
