Mother Nature forces early end to game

A rain cancellation ruined the coaching debut of Boulder City High School football coach Chris Render, who saw his team in a tight 14-7 battle with Valley on Aug. 14, before lightning called off the remaining action with less than four minutes to play in the first half.

Highlighting the Eagles’ limited action, Coen Burrows rushed for a three-yard touchdown, finishing the night with 30 yards on four carries.

Making his debut at quarterback, Logan Swint completed 3-of-7, passing for 46 yards, while rushing for 21 yards on two carries.

Anthony Eby caught a pair of passes for 49 yards, while Brandon Hobbs caught a pass for six yards.

Confident in the way his team performed, minus a pair of miscues that led to big plays by Valley, Render liked what he saw from the Eagles’ opener.

With the game ruled a no-contest, the Eagles will look to get their first victory on Aug. 28 in a home opener against Eldorado.

Volleyball

Playing in the highly-competitive Las Vegas Invitational, Boulder City High School girls volleyball compiled a 3-4 record over the weekend.

Playing stiff competition, the Eagles defeated Liberty Baptist and Reed 2-0, while defeating Cheyenne 2-1.

In their four losses, the Eagles fell 2-0 to Coronado, Green Valley Christian, Silverado and Sloan Canyon.

Over the seven-game stretch, Bella Battistone led the way with 38 kills, 11 serving aces and 19 digs, with Laylani Gubler adding 13 kills, 50 assists, 47 digs and 11 aces.

Juliette Kelso added 15 kills, while Kenley Poff recorded 26 digs, six kills and four blocks.

Looking to increase their win total, the Eagles will host Coral Academy today at home, followed by a road game on Tuesday at Basic.

Tennis

Starting the season off strong, Boulder City High School boys tennis defeated 4A Basic 12-1.

In doubles, the team of Will Teeples and Miles Alder and Grady Crine and Seamus Lemon finished 1-0, while the tandem of Thomas Allen and James Peel finished 2-0.

In singles play, Nathan Law and Bryce Schrock ended 2-0, while Jake Richards finished 1-0.

The girls match was canceled by Basic.

Getting right into 3A play, the Eagles will host rival Virgin Valley today, followed by a home match against Sloan Canyon on Monday.
