Community Club meets for lunch today

 

Members of the Boulder City Community Club will gather for lunch at 12:30 p.m. today in the multiuse building, 1204 Sixth St.

Guest speaker for the afternoon will be Joan Stertzer, the new principal at Grace Christian Academy.

Additionally, those attending are asked to bring donations for the helping closet at Boulder City High School.

 

Retired public employees to hear Janison

 

Members of the Boulder City Chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will gather for their monthly meeting at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive. Guest speaker will be meteorologist Kevin Janison.

A no-host lunch is held after the meeting at a local restaurant.

Senior center hosting family Halloween event

 

The Senior Center of Boulder City is hosting a Halloween Family Fun Night from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the center, 813 Arizona St.

The festivities will include a costume contest, games, prizes, music and dancing. Pizza and a drink will be available for $1.25.

All are welcome to attend.

Stories, crafts fill library's schedule of activities

 

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

Crazy 8s math club, 3:30 p.m. today in the board room. For those age 5-8. Reservations requested.

Lego challenge, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. The session is designed for those 6 and older.

Movie, 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. "A League of Their Own" will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

Teen and adult craft, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. Participants will make a new-sew book purse. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required by 8 p.m. today.

Concert, 7 p.m. Saturday in the amphitheater. The West Coast Travelers will perform classic rock.

Family movie, 6 p.m. Monday in the community room. "Tomorrowland" will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

Trick or treat preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers. Those attending are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes.

Anime club, 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room. For those in junior high school grades.

Trick or treat toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months. Those attending are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes.

Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.

Pumpkinman Triathlon on tap at Lake Mead Saturday

 

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks.

These include:

Pumpkinman Triathlon, Saturday. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Athletes will bike along Lakeshore and Northshore roads before hitting the Mountains Loops and Historic Railroad trails. Free seminar to focus on dementia, depression

 

A free seminar about dementia, depression and Alzheimer's disease will be presented at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.

The session will focus on what to do after receiving a diagnosis of dementia, Alzheimer's or depression, as well as what resources and support are available for the patient, caregiver and family members.

The presentation is part of the Managing New Seasons series presented by the Nevada Community Coalition.

Lend A Hand sets volunteer training

 

Lend A Hand is holding a volunteer training from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at its office, 400 Utah St.

The nonprofit provides a variety of services for Boulder City senior citizens.

Angel Tree is recruiting volunteers

 

Angel Tree -- the organization that provides Christmas gifts to kids and seniors in need -- are looking for volunteers interested in helping the program.

Jan Barbour and Lori McHugh are this year's coordinators, and are holding a short meeting at the Boulder City Library on Monday at 1 p.m.

There will be a Christmas tree set up at the Boulder Dam Credit Union beginning on Nov. 23 with tags of kids and seniors and what gifts they would like.

These gifts are then purchased by residents, community organizations and businesses of Boulder City.

Angel Tree provided 430 children and seniors with gifts during Christmas last year.

Every now and again you come across a product that makes you stand back and say, “Wow, that worked way better than I thought it would!” These gleeful moments come as a welcome surprise when we’re often disappointed by products that overpromise and under-deliver. When I find these little gems, I store them away in my mental DIY toolbox. This past month, I was happy to add a few more “must have” products that exceeded my expectations.

Ordinance promotes cleanliness, accessibility of public places

Individuals camping in public spaces has increased dramatically in the past few years across the nation. On May 27 the city of Boulder City joined the cities of Reno, Las Vegas, Henderson, and Sparks, along with Clark, Washoe, and Nye counties in passing a measure to expand the prohibition on camping in public places within city limits. The new ordinance goes into effect on June 19, 2025.
