Widow’s support group marks first anniversary

Anew Women's Network recently celebrated its first anniversary. The group provides friendship and support for women whose husbands have died.

The group was formed by Marjorie Kitchell and Fran Jordan to assist other widows.

Jordan lost her first husband in an auto accident in 1986 and, more recently, her husband, the Rev. Duane Jordan, in March 2013. Kitchell's husband, the Rev. Jim Kitchell, died in June 2014.

"We incorporate five basic focus areas into our meetings through special guest speakers and/or discussion groups," Jordan said.

The area of focus are: mental/emotional, relational, financial/legal, physical and faith.

"Women can benefit from areas of sharing information, encouragement, life experience and gaining friendships," she said.

Any woman whose husband has died, no matter how long ago or how recently, is welcome.

The group meets at 2 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. This month's guest speaker will be Merelynn Harris, a licensed therapist.

For additional information, contact Jordan at 702-293-0620 or Kitchell at 702-293-7773.
