In a pair of actions that took a total of perhaps five minutes in a Boulder City Council meeting Tuesday that lasted nearly five hours, the city council approved the lease terms for a battery facility to be used for storing energy generated by existing solar panels. Also introduced was a potential action that would open up more than 783 acres in the Eldorado Valley for future solar development.

A trio of Boulder City swimmers, who are also siblings, had strong showings in several events last weekend in a meet held at the University of Southern California. The meet featured swimmers from Arizona, Utah, Oregon, California, Nevada and Wyoming. Representing the Boulder City Heatwave were, from left, Phoebe McClaren who finished eighth overall in the 800-meter freestyle and ninth in the 1,500-meter freestyle, Zoey McClaren and Duncan McClaren, who both had personal bests.
Boulder City was well represented at the Bigfoot Hoops Las Vegas Main Event tournament, July 6-9. AAU teams from around the country attended this NCAA certified event, as well as college coaches who eyed potential recruits. Playing for the Henderson Basketball Academy team, the 16-year-olds earned the Gold Level Championship Trophy. Look for these players at the Boulder City High School games this season.

The recent focus by California and at the national level on renewable energy development allowed Boulder City to take advantage of its unique position for solar development, leasing city-owned land for energy production.
As I write that title, I immediately worry about sunscreen disclaimers. However, when it comes to summer, vacations, family time, and a simply slower pace, I suppose responsible fun in the sun is still a great opportunity to take a deep breath and re-center our busy lives. I can’t think of a better place to find an enjoyable balance of activities like outdoor adventure and indoor shopping or dining, than in charming Boulder City.
Each year, the Boulder City Damboree draws thousands of residents, as well as those from the Vegas Valley. The day features a pancake breakfast, parade, events in Broadbent Park and later in the afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park, culminating in a 30-minute fireworks show to celebrate the Fourth of July.
