n Summer reading program “Dig Into Reading” returns at 3 p.m. today. The program’s kickoff with the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, which is presenting “Explore the World of Dinosaurs,” is open to all ages in the community room.

n A bookend painting event for ages 12-17 starts at 3 p.m. today in the community room.

n The library will host “Magic Tree House Bookclub: Day of the Dragon King,” at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Ages 6-11.

n The craft hour “Animals!” will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the community room. The event is open to all ages.

n The family story time about pyramids will be at 7 p.m. June 20. There will be science, crafts, games, Legos and stories about these ancient wonders. Open to all ages.

Library running adult summer reading program

The library is hosting its summer adult reading program “Groundbreaking Reads” for readers 16 and older. Read a book that was groundbreaking to you, then tell the library why.

Enter as many books as you would like for drawings throughout the summer.

Grace Christian expands to new offerings

Grace Christian Academy, 512 California Ave., is now accepting registration for its new combined 6th/7th grade class. Registration continues for grades K-5. Democratic Club changes today’s meeting speaker

The Boulder City Democratic Club’s monthly meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. June 13 at the library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Assemblywoman Ellen Spiegel, D-Henderson, will provide an analysis of the recently completed state legislative session. She serves on the Health and Human Services, the Judiciary and the Transportation committees. The event is open to the public.

Nevada State Railroad Museum open weekends

For a larger-than-life train ride, bring the family to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 600 Yucca St. The train leaves the station at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It’s “all aboard” 15 minutes before departure. Adult fare is $10, children 4 through 11 are $5 and 3 and younger are free.

AAUW meets Monday

Women of Boulder City are invited to stop in for a monthly meeting of the American Association of University Women at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the Boulder Dam Museum meeting room, second floor of the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Library trustees meet Wednesday

The library’s Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the library board room, 701 Adams Blvd.

Library hosting tech seminar of eBooks

Library staff will show how to check out eBooks from the library and put them on you eReader at 1:30 p.m. June 20. Bring an eReader for practice. The library is at 701 Adams Blvd.

Free concert scheduled June 22

Friends of the Arts will host a free concert at 7 p.m. June 22 at the library amphitheater, 701 Adams Blvd. Singer Laura Shaffer will be singing standards from the ’40s and ’50s. Bring lawn chairs if you don’t want to sit on the grass.

Hospital gift shop, long-term care seek volunteers

The Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to work in the Goldie Begley Gift Shoppe and in long-term care.

Call 293-4111 and ask for the gift shop, or stop by the gift shop for an application. The application is also available at the hospital website, www.bchcares.org. Click on the “Auxiliary” tab.

Emergency Aid seeking energetic volunteers

Emergency Aid, 600 Nevada Highway, needs volunteers to work in the office and pantry. People skills are a necessity, but computer skills are not. Office volunteers work one or two mornings a week.

Pantry workers can pick a few hours during the week. Emergency Aid also is looking for people who have a truck and are willing to pick up deliveries to the pantry, or a pantry assistant to stock produce.

Help also is needed checking in clients. Office and pantry hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Call 293-0332 to make an appointment.

Homestead to hold workshops, support groups

The Homestead announces a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the public on aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The workshops will be led by Mary Shapiro, gerontologist and author. All workshops take place at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Drive. The next workshop is “Progression of the Disease: What to Expect” on June 20.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Memory Loss Support Group at 1 p.m. All workshops and support groups are free.

Republican women on third Thursday at Railroad Pass

To hear local Republican speakers discuss issues of the day, attend the third Thursday lunch of the local Republican Women’s Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Railroad Pass banquet room. Cost is $20 and covers tax and tip. RSVP at 393-1228 or email bcgop@yahoo.com to reserve spot.

RPEN meets fourth Thursday

American Legion meets
first Tuesday

VFW meets second Saturday
