First Thursday is today

The Boulder City Art Guild &Gallery will hold its First Thursday arts festival, which will have a Day of the Dead theme, at 6:30 p.m. today in the Historic Boulder City Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. Special guest will be artist Sue Burger.

In honor of Day of the Dead and the porcelain skull fundraiser sale, Burger will be talking about the traditions of Day of the Dead. She will hold a question-and-answer session after her talk.

Zombie Walk to aid veterans

The Brewpub has teamed with the Las Vegas chapter of the Zombie Squad, ZS-009, a charitable organization that teaches disaster preparedness and raises money for charities, to hold the third annual Zombie Walk at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.

A $5 donation gets you into the walk through the loop through the downtown business district for about half an hour.

Once walkers end up at the pub, there will be a party with three bands, Bad Mojo, 3d6 and Tru Blue. There will be prize drawings, including a Hawaiian vacation. Also, there will be a professional make-up artist to help people with their zombie look.

This year money will go to the Nevada Veterans Assistance League to support the Nevada Veterans Home in Boulder City. The Brewpub will donate $1 per drink to the cause.

PEO to hold annual holiday boutique Oct. 12

The P.E.O., Chapter K of Boulder City will hold its annual holiday boutique, featuring a bakery, jewelry, handmade crafts and antiques from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Senior Center of Boulder City at 813 Arizona St. Proceeds will benefit P.E.O. projects and scholarships.

Boulder City residents finish Ironman Tahoe

Two residents of Boulder City competed in the Ironman Tahoe on Sept. 22. They swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles in about 10.5 hours.

They are Troy and Staci Selinger, who crossed the finish line together.

Reflections Park to be rededicated Oct. 12

Boulder City will hold a rededication of Reflections Park at the junction of Denver, Colorado, Railroad and Birch streets at 4 p.m. Oct. 12.

The park has new sculptures, flag, plantings and local children’s art.

Reflections Park is now a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat and is part of the “Great American Backyard Bird Count” and a “Monarch Way Station.”

Congressman Heck to speak at Republican Women lunch

Boulder City Republican Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17 at Railroad Pass Conference Room. Joe Heck, congressman from Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District that includes Boulder City, will speak.

Heck serves on the education and workforce, armed services and House intelligence committees, and heads the subcommittee on technical and tactical intelligence committee. He is also a colonel in the Army Reserves and is a physician. All interested persons are invited.

Elks Lodge to hold crafts fair

The Elks Lodge will hold a crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at its lodge at 1217 Nevada Way. The Elks will sell hot dogs and hamburgers. Crafts booths will sell handmade jewelry, picture frames, calendars, cards, ornaments and pencil sets. There will also be prize drawings.

The annual fundraiser will support the Elks’ holiday basket project. Last year the group raised $8,000 to purchase 290 baskets that were distributed to families in the communities in December.
