Jameson honored by Beta Sigma Phi

At the 84th annual Founder’s Day Dinner, the Boulder City chapters of Beta Sigma Phi honored Dr. Florence Jameson as their Community Woman of the Year.

Community Woman of the Year is awarded to a woman who has given back to her community through volunteer service, a primary mission of the organization.

Jameson has spent her life dedicated to health care and community. She has been an advocate for patients and community health and has served as a member and past president of the Clark County Medical Society. She is the founder and CEO of Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, a free clinic dedicated to providing medical services to the uninsured who would otherwise have no medical care. Prior to that, she opened a clinic through the juvenile justice system to care for incarcerated young girls without insurance.

According to Beta Sigma Phi, Jameson personally understands the concept of not having funds for medical care. As a child, her family received care from a local physician who promised he would take care of the family, regardless of their ability to pay. At that time, she promised that someday she would “pay it forward” and help the underprivileged and uninsured in her community.

Jameson and her husband, Gard, have been residents of Boulder City for the past 30 years. She said she opened her practice in Las Vegas but loves coming back to Boulder City, where she and her husband raised their two children.

The Boulder City chapters of Beta Sigma Phi invite women to join a chapter, establishing friendships and working on philanthropic projects in the community. For more information, contact the rushing department at www.Betasigmaphi.org.

A rad evening in downtown Boulder City

Saturday night, a large crowd donned their best 1980s attire, which included an abundance of neon-colored clothing as part of the aptly-named Neon Nights. The block party was hosted by Main Street Boulder City and served as a make-up event for their planned New Year’s Eve celebration, which was canceled due to impending weather. Attendees filled the restautants and bars along the steet, while listening to 80s music played by DJ Mike Pacini.
