The results of April’s primary election were finalized during a special City Council meeting Monday, April 19, declaring Sherri Jorgensen elected and Cokie Booth and Mathew Fox to face off for the second open seat in the June 15 general election.

Dam serves as backdrop for many performers

In 1969, one of Las Vegas’ brightest names had a memorable television appearance, only it wasn’t from Vegas; it was on top of the Hoover Dam. Actor and musician Sammy Davis Jr. came through Boulder City before crossing over to the Hoover Dam, film crew in tow, to perform in a taped variety TV special titled “Frank Sinatra Jr. with Family and Friends.” The television special ran in October 1969 but was filmed in May of the same year.

Script doctors save ailing movies

In December 1978 a little movie called “Superman,” which was partially shot at Hoover Dam, debuted in theaters. Yes, the likes of Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman and Christopher Reeve have ties to Boulder City. “Superman” was supposed to be directed by Steven Spielberg, but he wanted too much money, and the four production companies tied to “Superman” decided upon director Richard Donner.
