■ Magician Tony Daniels will thrill kids of all ages at 2 p.m. Friday in the community room.
■ The library will discuss “Magic Tree House Bookclub: Viking Ships at Sunrise” at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Ages 6-11.
■ A gardening storytime will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the community room for ages 11 and younger.
■ Storytime session will be Wednesday with ages 2-5 at 10 a.m., and younger than 36 months at 11 a.m.
■ Dinosaur Club’s fourth meeting, Know Your Dinosaurs, is at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the board room. Ages 7 and older.
Democratic Club’s monthly meeting set for today

Nevada State Railroad Museum open weekends
For a larger-than-life train ride, bring the family to the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 600 Yucca St. The train leaves the station at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. It’s “all aboard” 15 minutes before departure. Adult fare is $10, children 4 through 11 are $5 and 3 and younger are free.
VFW meets Saturday
The local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars meets the second Saturday of the month with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting at noon at the Senior Center, 813 Arizona St. Call Bob Garlow at 808-4755 for information.
Chamber to show ‘The Lorax’ Saturday at park
Chamber of Commerce’s movie night will show “The Lorax” Saturday at Pratte Field in Veterans Memorial Park. Gates open at
6:30 p.m. with the movie at 7:30 p.m. $10 per car entry fee. Bring blankets and chairs. The 2012 animated film is rated PG and is based on Dr. Seuss’ book of the same name.
Museum ‘Dig Into History’ program Monday, Tuesday
The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum will discuss “You dig it?” the mining history of the area for children ages 10 and older at 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in partnership with the McCaw School of Mines. Call 294-1988 for more information. The museum is at 1305 Arizona St.
Tortoise meeting and adoption fair Tuesday
The Tortoise Group, a local nonprofit organization, will hold a tortoise meeting and adoption fair 6:30 p.m. at the library, 701 Adams Blvd. The meeting will provide information on overbreeding issues as well as the requirements to adopt a desert tortoise and building a backyard habitat.

Lady Eagles volleyball open gym held on Wednesdays
The Boulder City High girls volleyball team will hold open gym workouts from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s gym. Other open gym sessions are July 24, 31 and Aug. 7 at same time. The program will hold its annual summer camp Aug. 12-14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with visiting coaches from All American Volleyball.
Team tryouts are Aug. 19-21 from 8-11:30 a.m. A completed physical and insurance packet must be filled out in advance. See www. bouldercityvolleyball.com for more information.
Homestead to hold workshops, support groups
The Homestead announces a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the public on aging, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The workshops will be led by Mary Shapiro, gerontologist and author. All workshops take place at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at The Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Drive. The July 18 topic is “How to Cope When Worlds Fail.”
The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Memory Loss Support Group at 1 p.m. All workshops and support groups are free.

Museum Third Thursday program July 18
The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum will host archaeologist Dena Sedar of the Lost City Museum in Overton will discuss “Mysteries of Ancestral Puebloans: Incised Stones of the Lost City Museum,” 6 p.m. July 18. Library to show movie ‘Land Before Time’ July 19
Animated 1988 classic “Land Before Time” will be shown 1 p.m. July 19 in the large meeting room. The 73-minute movie is rated G and follows five orphaned dinosaurs working together to find the Great Valley where they might live peacefully.
Benefit concert set July 28
Local musician Phil Esser will perform at 3 p.m. July 28 in a fundraiser for Lend A Hand and Emergency Aid. The concert will be at the Elaine Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St. Tickets are $20 and available at Plaza Realty, 581 Hotel Plaza, or by calling 293-2440.
Proceeds will be split 50-50 between the two charities. Other musicians include Sandy Nelson, Charlie Shaffer, Bob Baker, Greg Langley, Arno Marsh, Nancy Porter and Alan Ayoub.
Library running adult summer reading program
The library is hosting its summer adult reading program, “Groundbreaking Reads,” for readers 16 and older. Read a book that was groundbreaking to you, then tell the library why.

Hospital gift shop, long-term care seek volunteers
The Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary is seeking volunteers to work in the Goldie Begley Gift Shoppe and in long-term care.

Emergency Aid seeking energetic volunteers
Emergency Aid, 600 Nevada Highway, needs volunteers to work in the office and pantry. People skills are a necessity, but computer skills are not. Office volunteers work one or two mornings a week.
Pantry workers can pick a few hours during the week. Emergency Aid also is looking for people who have a truck and are willing to pick up deliveries to the pantry, or a pantry assistant to stock produce. Help also is needed checking in clients.
Office and pantry hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Call 293-0332 to make an appointment.
AAUW meets third Monday
