School board candidate to address Democrats tonight

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hear Clark County School Board Trustee candidate Richard Vaughn when it holds its monthly meeting tonight. The meeting will begin at 6:30 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Retired public workers to hear Lend A Hand director

The Boulder City Chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will hold its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive.

In addition to the latest news from the association, members will hear from Christina Lodge, program director with Lend A Hand.

After the meeting, members will go to a local restaurant for lunch.

Pride in Purity to hold fall festival Saturday along with car show

Pride in Purity will present its Fall Family Festival on Saturday in Bicentennial Park, 999 Colorado St.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Fall Classic Custom and Rod Car Show.

The festival, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature a variety of vendors, arts, craft, face-painting, Zumba, rummage sale, raffles and limbo contest. Also planned is a special Sept. 11 tribute.

There is no cost to attend.

Proceeds from the craft sales help the girls involved in the organization underwrite the expenses for their trips where they spread the purity message while learning about the area.

PFLAG’s monthly meeting scheduled for Tuesday

PFLAG, formerly Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

The group offers round-table discussions centered on education, advocacy and mutual support to discuss family issues with others who have experienced sexual orientation issues. Family unity and individual dignity are issues the group supports. Those who attend are straight and gay.

Church to begin after-school program Sept. 15 at park

Boulder City United Methodist Church is offering a once-a-week after-school program, God’s Gathering Place, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each Thursday, starting Sept. 15, children will meet from 2:45-5:30 p.m. to learn about God through crafts, music, games and Bible stories.

Staff will pick up students at school and walk them to the Multiuse Building in Broadbent Park.

Snacks and homework help will be provided.

Homestead to host chamber’s September mixer

The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive, will host the September mixer for the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. The event, which is open to the public, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Light appetizers, as well as the facility’s signature punch and cookies, will be served.

The event is free and open to the community.

Presentation to explain File of Life, Yellow Dot programs

Lend A Hand is will host an informational session on the File of Life and Yellow Dot programs at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Both programs offer life-saving resources, which are especially vital for local senior citizens.

Jim Kindel, battalion chief for the Boulder City Fire Department, will present the program.

All are welcome and reservations are not necessary.

Community Club’s meetings resume with luncheon

Members of the Community Club will gather for a luncheon meeting at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

It will be the club’s first meeting after a summer break and plans for the coming months will be discussed.

The annual membership fee for the 2016-2017 year are due.

Cost of the luncheon is $10. Reservations are required.

Guild to exhibit Adamczyk’s work

Lily Adamczyk is the featured artist for September at Boulder City Art Guild’s gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. “Out on a Limb — Enjoy the View” is the title of the exhibit.

In addition, guild members have created an exhibit, “The Old West,” at Hoover Dam Lodge.

A reception for the artists will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 18. All interested people are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

The resort is at 18000 U.S. Highway 93.

The art guild also has planned a fundraising yard sale for Sept. 16 and 17. The sale will begin at 8 a.m. both days at 809 Fifth St.

Library plans club meetings, story session

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

• Adult book club, 9 a.m. today in the community room.

• STEAM club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through stories, crafts and activities. For those 6-11.

• Science Exploration Club, 3:30 Friday in the board room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.

• Teen advisory group, 3 p.m. Monday in the community room. Open to those 12-18, the group offers advice on activities, programs and materials in the youth services department.

• Movie, 4 p.m. Monday in the community room. “Angry Birds” will be shown.

• Positive Action for Teens, 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. The nationally recognized program works to improve academics, behavior and character.

• Family story time, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room.
