Wurst Fest celebrating 30th anniversary
For the past three decades, it’s been looked upon as the event that kicks off the very busy fall event schedule in Boulder City.
Wurst Fest, sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary Club, hits that milestone Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.
“Only through the generosity of the Boulder City community and businesses have we been able to achieve such wonderful success for the past 30 years,” longtime Rotarian Doug Scheppmann said.
“The Wurst Festival is an opportunity for our residents and visitors to our community, who have endured another hot summer, to visit with their friends and neighbors, spend an entertaining afternoon in the park, and participate in our fundraising efforts, which makes Boulder City such a great community to call home.”
As in the past, the event will feature a popular car show, music, a basket raffle, antique vendors, beer and food trucks, a kids’ area, a spirited live auction from 4-6 p.m., and of course, the star of the show, bratwursts.
“The live auction is the foundation of our event,” Scheppmann said. “A few years ago, Vern and Darlene Burk donated a 1929 Ford Model A pickup to our auction that was purchased by Boulder City residents Tony and Carolyn Veirup. They have generously donated the vehicle back for our auction this year.”
Along with e-bikes, patio sets, grills, Raider and Golden Knights tickets, and many other items, Scheppmann said they hope to provide a wide variety of items that will entice attendees to participate in Rotary’s fundraising goals.
“This is more than just a Sunrise Rotary effort - we appreciate the community coming out for the event and donating auction items that directly give back to the kids and residents of the community,” Rotarian Michael Mays said.
The money raised helps to support numerous community activities, most of which is Rotary’s annual Boulder City High School Grad Night. This event provides a safe, alcohol-and drug-free celebration for Boulder City High School seniors on a night when many put themselves and others at risk with their celebration. Today, the all-night party regularly attracts over 90% of our high school graduates.
