Lady Eagles unbeaten; move to 3-0-1 record

Off to a strong start, Boulder City High School girls soccer enters the week with a 3-0-1 record, following a big win against Equipo Academy on Sept. 3.

“I think we have started the season off strong,” head coach Kristin Shelton said. “We are playing well but I know there is progress to be made and work to be done the best that we can.”

Edging out a strong 1-0 win over an Equipo Academy team that made the state tournament last season, this was the kind of early-season victory the Eagles needed to build some momentum.

“I was really proud of the team for their win against Equipo,” Shelton said. “We dominated the game and I’m hoping this momentum can be maintained as we move through the season. This was definitely a confidence booster and I hope it propels the girls forward positively, but we must remain humble and stay focused on each individual match coming up.”

Putting the Eagles ahead, Susan Muir scored on an unassisted goal to become the fifth different Eagle to score a goal in the first four games of the season, showing off the team’s offensive depth.

“This team is well-rounded and each player is more than capable of getting points on the scoreboard,” Shelton said. “I think it’s extremely beneficial to have a variety of players contributing goals. This way, if the other team singles out one of our strong offensive players, I know we have other members of the team who will step up to get the job done.”

Stepping up defensively as well, the Eagles turned in their third shutout of the young season, looking like a complete team early on.

“Our defense is definitely coming together and working collectively in the backfield,” Shelton said. “Our keepers have been doing their part also, so I’m confident in the collaboration happening.”

Currently sitting in second place in league standings after tying with The Meadows 0-0 on Sept. 1, the Eagles will look to move up with a league match this week on Tuesday against rival Moapa Valley.

Playing a non-league home match against 4A Basic today, the Eagles would like to remind fans that they are currently collecting canned food/supplies to stock the Emergency Aid of Boulder City’s food pantry during home games this month.
