Golfers three-peat on the course

Reaching their preseason goal, Boulder City High School girls golf won their third consecutive 3A state championship on Oct. 14.

“I am extremely proud of these girls and grateful for the opportunity to coach them and be part of this incredible run,” head coach Bobby Reese said. “They are a fun group of young ladies and an extremely talented group of golfers. I would gladly trade any of my buddies on my next scramble team for any one of these girls.”

Dominating the field at Ruby View Golf Course, the Eagles placed three golfers inside the top four finishers and all four inside the top 10.

They finished with a team score of 692, followed by Truckee (778) and Elko (812).

“Having golfers finish second, third, and fourth is unbelievable and incredibly rare,” Reese said. “I have been involved with 3A girls golf since 2016 and I have never seen a team place three golfers in the top four. That is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the talent, hard work and dedication of these girls, as well as the strength of this entire team. I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”

Leading way way for the Eagles was star golfer Emmerson Hinds who, although finishing just short of capturing her fourth individual state title, finished second overall with a score of 155, leading all Southern golfers.

Northern challenger Allison Mortimeyer from Truckee finished first with a score of 148.

“I have been extremely fortunate to have Emmerson on my team for the past four years,” Reese said. “She has a very busy tournament golf schedule, and it takes a lot for her to make time for the high school season, especially when that is typically her down time. I can’t thank her and her parents enough for allowing her to represent Boulder City High School. I just hope that, in some small way, I was able to return the favor and give her something meaningful from her time with our program.”

Finishing third and fourth, respectively, were Makenzie Martorano (165) and Morgen Terrill (178).

Finishing tied for 10th was Ashlyn Ruter with a score of 198.
