Eagles record shutout in home opener
Starting the Chris Render era off strong, Boulder City High School football defeated Eldorado 21-0 on Aug. 28, to give their head coach a debut victory.
“It’s good to get a victory and put this first game behind us,” Render said. “It’s amazing all the preparation it takes to put on a home game, not just on the field. I’m proud of all the kids, our coaches, the student section and town for showing up. I’m glad we were able to give everyone a victory.”
Lights out on defense in a shutout effort, the Eagles forced six turnovers on the night, highlighted by Anthony Eby, who snagged three interceptions.
Jolton Swope also grabbed an interception, while Ghavyn Cartier and Josh Miller each recovered fumbles.
Flying around the field, Swope and Otis Ruth each made nine tackles apiece, while Miller recorded seven.
Wyatt Lemming (five tackles) and Cody Aten each generated a sack.
“Defensively, we could not have asked for more,” Render said. “This is a group of leaders. Everyone on our defense takes pride in everything they do. They all have a defense-first mentality and just get after it.“
Showing flashes on offense, first-year starting quarterback Logan Swint accounted for three touchdowns, two through the air and one on the ground.
Completing five of 12 passing, Swint threw for 56 yards, while rushing for 19 yards on six carries.
Through the air, Cartier caught two passes for 36 yards and a score, while Swope caught a six-yard touchdown pass.
“We put in a new system on offense and the kids are starting to get it,” Render said. “We struggled a little early picking up blitzes, but we settled down and did a lot of great things.”
Looking to build a winning streak, the Eagles will head to 4A Clark on Friday for their first big test of the season.
