Voter registration topic for Democrats

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 tonight at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. The topic of discussion will be voter registration efforts.

Gardens hosting fall festival Saturday

A fall garden festival and plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Boulder City Community Gardens, 399 Birch St.

The event, presented by Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of the Arts, will feature activities for the entire family including games, workshops and giveaways. Several unique plants also will be available for purchase.

'Wicked' wine walk on tap Saturday in downtown area

The Best Dam Wine Walk presented by the Chamber of Commerce continues its series of walks from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Theme for this walk is "Wicked."

Stop by the Chamber of Commerce at 465 Nevada Way first to get a glass and map of participating locations.

The event is part of Second Saturday, which also includes family-friendly activities such as human foosball, a giant corn hole and entertainment.

Cost of the wine walk is $25 a person or $45 a couple.

Original work to be auctioned at art gallery

Boulder City Art Guild Gallery is having a silent auction for an original watercolor painting by the late Aileen Dike.

The piece, "Autumn in Full Dress," was donated by a private collection and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It was painted in 2010 during Dike's last trip to Mexico.

The piece, which is 10.5-by-13.5 inches, is matted and framed. It is on display in the gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The silent auction ends Saturday.

Stories, club meetings fill library's schedule of activities

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

— Crazy 8s math club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. For those age 5-8. Reservations requested.

— Science Exploration Club, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.

— Teen advisory group, 3 p.m. Monday in the community room. Open to those 12-18, the group offers advice on activities, programs and materials in the youth services department.

— Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.

— Anime club, 6 p.m. Tuesday in the board room. For those in junior high school.

— Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months.

— Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.

— Family story time, 6 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. There will be science, crafts, games, Legos and stories.

Myriad special events on tap at Lake Mead

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:

— Cottonwood Cove beach cleanup and eco-dive, Saturday. The National Park Service is joining with Forever Resorts to co-sponsor the beach cleanup and eco-dive. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the cleanup event and dive starting at 9 a.m. Lunch and a prize drawing will be provided by Forever Resorts. Advance registration required. — Ranger chat: "Public Lands: Treasures of Southern Nevada," 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center.

Walking group meets at Veterans' Memorial Park

Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship has a walking group that meets at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Veterans' Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.

Group members walk for 30 minutes before they begin their day. Everyone is invited to come out and improve their health and make new friends. Walkers meet at the duck pond next to Pratte Field.

Donations sought for Country Store

Grace Community Church is now accepting donations for its Country Store sale to be held Oct. 16 and 17. Donations can be left at the church, 1150 Wyoming St.

The storeroom is open from 8-10 a.m. Mondays or you can call the church at 702-293-2018 to arrange for donations to be picked up.

Proceeds from the sale are used for missionary projects and church operations.
