Hours of operation: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday to Friday at 813 Arizona St., 702-293-3320. Visit the senior center’s website at www.seniorcenterbouldercity.org.

Free computers/Internet to members: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Morning coffee, snacks, newspapers: 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

Library/gift shop: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Lunch hour: 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Suggested donation $2 (60 and older), $3 fee (59 or younger).

Meals-on-Wheels are delivered Monday through Friday to the homebound*

Thursday: Beef roast, twice-baked potatoes, bacon-wrapped broccoli, fruit, mint brownie

Friday: Tomato Florentine with pasta, salad, fruit

Monday: Cheese tortellini in Alfredo spinach sauce, salad bar, fruit

Tuesday: Cabbage rolls, carrots, salad bar/fruit, (10:45 a.m. to noon)

Wednesday: Closed

Meal passes are available for your convenience at the receptionist’s desk.

Walking my dogs around the neighborhood, early in the morning to beat the heat, I’ve noticed residents being mindful of water usage, taking steps to conserve in multiple ways. Several homes within a six-block radius have removed or are in the process of replacing their grass with desertscape (xeriscape) or artificial grass. Early morning watering schedules are being adhered to – before 9 a.m., for optimal lawn health and water conservation.

When my friend learned there was asbestos in the roof of a house he was looking to buy in Boulder City, it reminded me that the scarlet letter ‘A’ of building materials is something to be wary of when you own a home.
