Desert Research Institute scientist Yuan Luo, Ph.D., stands underground near a weighing lysimeter tank at DRI’s SEPHAS lysimeter facility in Boulder City. Each tank contains 49,000 pounds of soil and has 153 sensors at 15 depths to help scientists understand how water content, gas, temperature and other soil characteristics change over time.
