Lady Eagles have their eye on the prize

Sweeping their way through league play, Boulder City High School girls golf won their fifth league match of the season at Sienna on Sept. 16.

“As a team we are obviously doing very well, winning all league matches by an average of 63 strokes,” head coach Bobby Reese said. “Individually, we are also doing well, but we need to turn it up a bit if we want to bring home the team title as well as four individual medals.”

Remaining undefeated on the season, the Eagles had a total team score of 344, followed by Virgin Valley (406) and Moapa Valley (500).

Leading the way, Emmerson Hinds finished second on the day with a total score of 75, the first time this season she didn’t finish atop the leaderboard.

With a fourth 3A individual state title a strong possibility, Reese noted what an enjoyable experience it’s been to watch his star pupil.

“It’s just fun to watch her go about her business and how she approaches the game,” Reese said. “She is always very calm and takes what the course gives her while staying patient.”

More than just a one-man band, the Eagles feature a strong core, headlined by Morgen Terill, who finished third with a score of 77 and Makenzie Martorano, who ended tied for fifth with a score of 95.

Ashlyn Ruter finished eighth with a score of 98.

Set to play a pair of friendly matches the next two weeks, the Eagles will prep for postseason play and their third consecutive state championship.

Preaching fundamentals, the Eagles will go in as the favorite on Oct. 7 at Aliante.

“It’s nice to have those top four golfers, but it doesn’t leave us much room for error,” Reese said. “All four have to be healthy and ready to compete.”
