Busy start for Mitchell Elementary

Mitchell Elementary has enjoyed a great beginning to our school year as our staff continues to serve our students and families as their children learn and lead.

We currently have 364 pre-K through grade two students. Forty-five of our students have chosen Mitchell and commute each day to our school as open enrollment students.

We are excited to welcome them to our community and love the contributions they make to our school.

Mitchell continues to focus on student achievement.

We maintain our focus on high-quality Tier I instruction using strategies that engage all students.

It is our goal to have 70% of our second-grade students score above the 60th percentile in reading on the Spring iReady assessment.

This will put the majority of our students on track to read by grade three as they enter the next stages of their elementary learning at King Elementary.

We enjoyed participating in homecoming at Boulder City High School.

Ten Mitchell students, ranging in age from pre-K to second grade, rode on our PAC float last Thursday evening.

Two kindergarten students participated at the homecoming game on Friday night as duke and duchess in the homecoming court. These events help build strong connections between our schools and our community.

Once again, Sunrise and Sunset Rotary generously supported our classrooms this year, offering each teacher a $500 grant for classroom materials.

Last spring, Mitchell ES received the honor of becoming a Legacy Leader in Me Lighthouse School. On Oct. 23 our school will celebrate our Legacy status with a Leadership Day. King, Garrett, and Boulder City High School are set to join in the celebration that day as the students in those schools are part of the Mitchell Legacy.

We will welcome community members, other schools, and representatives from Leader in Me to celebrate the impactful work our teachers and students do each day.

Mitchell Elementary, along with the other schools in Boulder City, will be participating as a Destination School of Choice in our District.

We will share our great habits, traditions, and achievements at Clark County School Fairs to promote our schools and community. We are grateful for the ongoing support of the city of Boulder City in this effort as well.

This Friday, we will have our annual Bubble Run. While this is an important fundraiser for our school, more importantly, it is also a fun afternoon as our staff, students, and families demonstrate Habit 7 by sharpening the saw together while playing and running in the afternoon sun.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mitchell Elementary PAC for continuing to organize and support the Bubble Run.

This fundraiser provides additional funds to support our students and classrooms.

As a school, we continue to be awed by our community’s outstanding generosity.
