BCHS 2-1 after homecoming win
Picking up a huge homecoming victory, Boulder City High School football defeated 4A Sierra Vista 24-19 on Sept. 18.
“I’m super proud of the boys,” head coach Chris Render said. “It’s always good to have a homecoming win. It’s been a while since we’ve had one and this is the reason why I wanted the job when I put my name in the running. To give back to our town and give our fans something to be proud of.”
Advancing to 2-1 on the season, the Eagles dominated early with a 17-0 lead, finding a way in the end to bring the victory home.
“We started fast, but we need to find a way to maintain that same energy throughout all four quarters,” Render said. “There were a lot of great things to take away from Friday and some things we still need to work on.”
Playing lights out on defense, the Eagles created four turnovers, highlighted by a 50-yard scoop and score fumble return from Josh Miller.
Menaces in the secondary, Colton Lewis picked off a pair of passes, while Luke Jappe intercepted a pass as well.
Applying constant pressure to the quarterback, Brandon Hobbs generated three sacks, while Miller (five tackles) and Ghavyn Cartier (two sacks) paced the defense.
Flying around the field, Otis Ruth led the way with eight tackles; while Jolton Swope added seven.
“Our defense is playing as a unit,” Render said. “We have guys contributing at every position and all of our key returners are doing their job.”
Finding a way to complement the defense, despite an off night, quarterback Logan Swint rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores on 20 carries, while completing four of 16 passing for 74 yards.
“Logan’s a competitor, he’ll take what he can get,” Render said. “He’s taken a great leap forward since week one. He’s starting to take over the quarterback role and doing what he needs to do to win us games.”
Nearly perfect on the day on special teams, Cash Daley connected on one of two field goal attempts, while nailing all three extra points.
Off this week to celebrate, the Eagles will be back in action on Oct. 2 with a road game at rival Moapa Valley.
