Boulder Boats consolidates; shutters local dealership

Boulder Boats, the decade-old boat and RV dealership, has closed its Boulder City location.

There were “no major dramas” behind the Jan. 2 closure, owner Stuart Litjens said. The company has simply decided to focus on its Henderson location.

The decision was a matter of logistics and space, Litjens said.

Boulder Boats’ Henderson location, 615 W. Lake Mead Parkway, opened in November 2012 and features a 16,000-square-foot showroom.

“We’re in a lot better-accommodating facility,” Litjens said. “With them being 10 miles apart, we didn’t need the two locations.”

Litjens said business is up 30 percent from the previous year, and not a factor in the consolidation.

“Business is very good, but now we can be a lot more focused,” he said.

Also not a factor in the move out of Boulder City is the Interstate 11 loop, which, when completed in a few years, will route interstate Nevada Highway traffic around Boulder City.

“I think lake traffic will still be going through (Boulder City),” Litjens said.

Boulder Boats opened in March 2004 near the intersection of Nevada Highway and Buchanan Boulevard. The business moved to 1495 Nevada Highway in 2006.

The two parcels where the business was located, a total of 1.1 acres, are for sale.

“It’s kinda sad now, leaving Boulder,” Litjens said. “It’s where we started.”
