Effort to support Wreaths Across America begins

Local volunteers are working to ensure that veterans buried at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery are honored in December on National Wreaths Across America Day. This year’s ceremony, held simultaneously at more than 1,000 locations nationwide, will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 17.

Col. Carol Lynn of the Civil Air Patrol, Nevada Wing Commander, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, will oversee the ceremony.

“Each and every wreath is a gift from an appreciative person or family who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “We are so humbled that the community of Boulder City is participating in our mission to remember, honor and teach.”

Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery has more than 30,000 graves.

A program by Wreaths Across America provides one wreath for every two purchased or sponsored. Boulder City Republican Women’s Club, which receives no monetary benefit for participating, again will be furnishing wreaths for the cemetery.

To sponsor wreaths or to learn more about Wreaths Across America, contact the BCRW hotline at 702-393-1228, email bcgop@yahoo.com or visit WreathsAcrossAmerica.org.
