Murals to be painted on closed businesses’ plywood boards

The plywood boards across several downtown businesses will get an artistic makeover thanks to the efforts of several local citizens and high school students.

Pepper Coombes is working along with Connie Burnett-Ferraro to arrange for students to paint murals on the boards used to close Scratch House on Arizona Street and the Browder Building on Nevada Way.

“While there are no immediate plans for the buildings, I am very happy to cooperate with the local high school group and look forward to seeing the results of their artistic endeavors,” said the buildings’ owner, Charles Lawson, in a statement.

Coombes said he met with Lawson and they discussed the issue.

All paint and necessary supplies will be provided by Coombes, with the talents provided by high school students. Burnett-Ferraro, who has painted many murals in town, will offer guidance to the teens.

Burnett-Ferraro, who has painted about 30 murals in town, said she is considering having the students showcase the many outdoor activities available in Boulder City, such as golf, fishing and hiking, while incorporating the Chamber of Commerce’s “A World Away for a Day” theme.

Work on the murals is expected to begin in the next couple of days.

Anyone interested in helping with or participating in the project can call Coombes at 702-293-6798 or 813-997-4234, or Burnett-Ferraro at 702-293-3114.
