Eagles suffer loss to league rival
Boulder City High School football fell to 2-2 on the season, losing their league opener to rival Moapa Valley, 48-13, on Oct. 2.
Traveling to Overton, the Eagles couldn’t stop the Pirates’ high-flying offense, trailing 35-0 after three quarters.
Finally showing signs of life in the fourth quarter, the Eagles ended the game on a high note, scoring a pair of touchdowns, hopes of signs to come for their remaining league schedule.
“Honestly, give all the credit to Moapa Valley, that’s a really good football team,” head coach Chris Render said. “They attacked us early and made big plays. I was proud of the boys for not giving up. I told them after the game, there’s still a long season to be played. We need to respond the right way after this loss.”
In retrospect, Moapa Valley held 5A Mojave to 12 points earlier in the season.
Continuing to improve at the position, quarterback Logan Swint completed 16 of 29 passing for 183 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 30 yards on six carries.
Through the air, Ghavyn Cartier caught five passes for 64 yards and two scores, while Coen Burrows caught five passes for 54 yards.
Defensively, Brody Hopkinson and Brandon Hobbs each generated a sack, while Josh Miller and Donovan Knapp recovered fumbles.
Having already burned through their bye weeks, the season doesn’t get any easier for the Eagles, who host 4A Durango on Friday.
“I have all the confidence that we will bounce back,” Render said. “A lot of teams have already played six, seven games, we’ve played four. We’re getting better each day and we’ll continue to get better.”
