Fall is in full swing at Garrett

The past few weeks have been busy at Garrett Junior High School as students have continued to settle into the school year, participate in fall activities, and work toward finishing the first quarter strong.

With the end of the quarter approaching, students are checking their grades, completing assignments, and communicating with their teachers.

Through our Leader in Me program, we continue to encourage students to use their healthy habits to be proactive, put first things first, and use their voices to advocate for themselves.

In September, we celebrated our fall athletes and student leaders with our Big Dill Fall Pep Rally.

The Bobcats cross country teams, boys and girls flag football players, cheerleaders, and student council members were recognized for the time and effort they dedicate to Garrett and help us shine.

Students filled the gym with Bobcat spirit, and the eighth-grade class proudly earned the spirit stick with their extraordinary Bobcat spirit.

Our fall sports teams have continued to represent Garrett with hard work and determination. Both flag football teams have had some exciting games, while our cross country runners have continued to perform well at their meets, beating their personal records every time. Our Bobcat cheerleaders are also doing a fabulous job cheering on our teams and representing our school with Bobcat pride.

Garrett also hosted its very first middle school cross country meet at Veterans Memorial Park.

Coaches Ryan and Shalee Pusko worked with the Boulder City High School cross country coaches and athletes to organize the event and make it a great experience for the visiting teams.

It was wonderful to see our school and communities come together to support the runners. In addition to sanctioned events, Garrett athletes competed in a meet with over 800 runners.

Kenzie Burr came in 11th place out of 160 runners, and Elliott Potter also took top honors in his age group.

We also celebrated Nevada’s Week of Respect with spirit days and activities focused on kindness, inclusion, and respect.

Students were challenged to connect their actions to the 8 Habits by being proactive, listening to others, working together, and choosing kindness.

From wearing green to respect the world we live in, to ending the week in pajamas and cozying up with respect, our Bobcats showed that creating a respectful school community can also be fun.

The message throughout the week was simply that a kinder world starts with us.

We are also proud to congratulate our talented choir students who were selected to perform in the CCSD Middle School Honor Choir — Quentin Somerhalder, Timothy Alder, Dafne Comacho-Dominguez, and Sydney Rosenlof. Being selected for this special ensemble is an achievement that reflects their talent, preparation, and dedication. We look forward to seeing them represent Garrett in November at Hamm Hall, alongside outstanding middle school singers from across the district.

Our band and advanced choir are also preparing to perform at the Boulder City High School football game. The choir will join the BCHS choir in singing the national anthem before the game, while the Garrett band will play in the stands throughout the evening.

It will be another great opportunity for our students to share their talents and connect with the Boulder City school community and their musically talented peers.

From academics and leadership to athletics, music, and school spirit, our Bobcats have packed a lot into the first quarter.

We are proud of the way our students continue to work hard, be kind, and represent Garrett the Bobcat Way.
