Eagles dominate 4A foe on the road
Sitting with a 5-1 record, Boulder City High School boys tennis is performing exactly how head coach Rachelle Huxford expects her championship-quality team to perform.
“Every year we come into the season with an expectation to win a state championship for the boys,” Huxford said. “This year it’s a new team, but the expectation is no different and currently they’re playing like they have the potential to be there at the end.”
Defeating rival Moapa Valley 10-8 on Sept. 3, the Eagles followed it up with an impressive 16-2 victory over 4A Silverado.
“The Moapa match was a good opportunity to see what they have this year,” Huxford said. “Even though technically, it wasn’t an official league match, it’s still a rivalry match and the kids take it seriously. It was a good win.”
Traveling up to Overton to face the Pirates, Bryce Schrock and Kellan Gross each finished 2-1 in singles play, while Kolton Queen finished 1-2.
In doubles play, the tandems of Nathan Law and Grady Crine and James Peel and Chase Herbolsheimer each finished 2-1, while the team of Ryan Quirin and Crue Shamo ended at 1-1.
Traveling to Silverado for a look at higher classified competition, the Eagles won handily behind 2-0 doubles performances from tandems Miles Alder and Will Teeples and Seamus Lemon and Grady Crine.
The team of James Peel and Thomas Allen finished 1-0 in doubles, while singles players Law, Schrock, Quirin and Herbolsheimer all finished 1-0.
Playing a pair of home games this week, the Eagles will host Lake Mead Christian Academy today, followed by a match with Coral Academy on Tuesday.
