Pit Stop upsets softball league leader

Only three weeks of regular-season play remain in Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department’s men’s softball league and the standings have tightened.

Pit Stop vaulted into first place with a two-game sweep of Time to Mash, which fell to second in the standings. Pit Stop held Time to Mash scoreless in the top of the final inning to preserve an 11-10 victory in the nightcap game.

In other play, Duetto evened its record at 7-7 with a two-game sweep of Boulder Tree while Papillon clung to third place after a two-game split with the Credit Union, 26-18 and 15-19.

Regular-season play resumes at 6 tonight at Hemenway Park.

In Coed action, tournament play is underway and the league is quickly down to the last three teams. Newcomer Duetto Ducks upset regular-season winner Jack’s Place 16-6 in the winner’s bracket to advance to the final. Jack’s Place will now play the losers’ bracket survivor Hammer’s Bar and Grill for a chance to knock off Duetto. Either team will need to beat Duetto twice to claim the tournament title.

The tournament has a week off and resumes Nov. 9.
