Credit Union advances to finals

Credit Union reminded everyone why it is the No. 1 seed, advancing to the championship round of the Boulder City Parks &Recreation Men’s Basketball League with hard-fought wins over Woodbury Law 40-34 and gRIM reap 58-45.

Credit Union is assured of playing at 6:30 tonight in the championship at the Recreation Center. It is a double-elimination format. If Credit Union loses its first game, it would have a rematch game at 7:50 p.m.

Credit Union’s Rich Martinez poured in 15 points. Dan Martinez added 14 points and Eddie Willingham scored 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack in the win against gRim reap. John Polin led gRIM reap with 26 points.

In the loser’s bracket, No. 3 seed El Rancho also won two games, crushing Duetto 87-64 and then topping Woodbury Law 53-45. El Rancho’s Rocky DiAntonio extended his consecutive streak of 30-plus point games to four with a 35-point barrage against Duetto. Scott Scheppmann and Paul DeSantis added 19 and 18 points, respectively, for El Rancho.

Woodbury Law snapped DiAntonio’s streak, holding him largely in check until the final two minutes when he hit a series of clutch free throws to finish with 21 points. DeSantis added 15 for El Rancho, while Woodbury Law’s Brigham Church gave El Rancho trouble inside, muscling for 17 points in the loss.

Like gRIM reap, No. 6 seed Fiochhi kept its hopes alive for a championship, sending defending champion Flight S2S packing with a 68-63 victory. Bruce Wesley and J.J. Gray led Fiochhi with 23 and 19 points.
