Even on a day when senior Boulder City quarterback Jeanne Carmell threw more interceptions, two, than she had in her previous eight games combined, one, the Lady Eagles flexed their muscles en route to another victory.
Dominating what was supposed to be a tough matchup Jan. 7 between at-the-time-undefeated conference opponents, the Lady Eagles manhandled opposing Chaparral 40-0 on the road, giving the hosting Cowboys their first conference loss of the season.
Despite tossing a pair of interceptions, Carmell was nearly perfect against the Cowboys, completing 19 of her 25 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns.
Supported by an all-around rushing effort, the Lady Eagles ran the ball a season-high 24 times against Chaparral, led by none other than Carmell, who added a pair of scores on the ground and 27 yards on five rushing attempts.
Midway through the season, Carmell has now accumulated 2,314 passing yards and 30 touchdowns through the air, while rushing for another 465 yards and 11 scores as one of the state’s premier dual-threat playmakers.
Adding into the Lady Eagles’ rushing attack was senior Oshanna Remy, who gained 29 yards on two carries, while the trio of seniors, Rachel Whitman, Paige Buettner and Tarah Cox, all gained 18 yards apiece on three carries each.
Through the air, Remy caught seven passes for 88 yards, while seniors Makenzy Waldo and Cox and junior Kenadee Bailey each caught a touchdown pass. Waldo would finish with 76 yards on three catches for Boulder City, while Cox garnered 40 yards on a pair of catches and Bailey garnered 37 yards on three catches.
On the defensive end, despite not tallying an interception for the first time this season as a unit, the Lady Eagles were more than happy with their defensive performance.
Completing their sixth shutout of the season, Buettner’s performance was key as the senior tallied six tackles and a game-high two sacks, constantly putting pressure on the Cowboy’s quarterback.
Tallying six tackles as well against Chaparral were seniors Emma Jeppsen and Remy, along with Bailey.
Carmell and Waldo would conclude the defensive effort with two and one tackle each.
Facing what is supposed to be on paper another tough conference matchup for Boulder City, the Lady Eagles will host 10-2 Virgin Valley on Friday. The game starts at 4:30 p.m.
