Boys wins, girls lose against Tech

Heading in different directions on Sept. 3 during their home opener against Southeast Career and Technical Academy, the Boulder City boys and girls tennis programs split their sets against the Roadrunners.

Claiming a victory on the day to advance to 2-0 on the season were the boys, who matched their season win total from last season with a 16-2 victory over the Roadrunners.

In singles competition for the Eagles, sophomores Andre Pappas (3-0), Sam O’Berto (3-0) and Pedro Velarde (2-1) were victorious during their three-set matches.

In doubles competition, the pairs of sophomore Garrett Leavitt and freshman Chandler Larson and sophomore Clayton Pendleton and freshman Karson Bailey were both 3-0 on the day during their matches.

Also in doubles competition, the duos of seniors Jordan Hill and Jacob Harrison, senior Aidan Schofield and freshman Kaeden Carver, and sophomore Adam Clary and freshman Leaf Kaboli all won their sets played.

“The boys are a strong team this year and are doing well with their match play,” Boulder City head coach Katy Nash said. “We are going to continue to attack our drills in practice and make sure they are implemented in matches.”

While the boys were able to pick up a decisive victory, the girls fell to the Roadrunners in a heartbreaking 10-8 loss.

“This was a tough lost for our returning girls, but I am proud of the match,” Nash said. “(The) girls had a good match and fought hard to have a close score.”

In singles competition, junior Natalia Fullmer and freshman Harley Fullmer led the way for the Eagles, finishing 2-1 apiece on the day.

In doubles competition, the duo of juniors Kyra Yamamoto and McKenna Frazier finished the day 3-0 against the Roadrunners, while the duo of freshman Natalie Bowman and Olivia Goodfellow concluded the day 1-2.

“We have a lot of new girls on the team that are learning how to play as double teams, and they are making those adjustments very well,” Nash said. “I am happy with their play and scores.”
