Boulder City High School’s boys bowling team took care of business again by winning all nine points against the Southeast Career Technical Academy on Jan. 8.
With two regular-season matches remaining, the Eagles’ 63-9 record is one of the district’s best.
After squeaking out a 25-pin victory in the first game with a team score of 683, Boulder City regained its composure and shot 725 and 769, respectively, during the last series’ two games. Tech’s first team game of 658 was its highest of the match and the closest it came to knocking off the Eagles, something only Chaparral has done this season.
The Roadrunners shot a 593 the second game and shot a 490 in the last game.
As he has most of the year, Teagan Smale led the Eagles, shooting a 639 series, right on par with his season average of 213. Randall Berkheimer, Dylan Amico and Ed Rassuchine shot 524, 510 and 504, respectively.
Although the Eagles are flying high as the regular season winds down, they continue to preach the importance of converting spares.
“It was really bad tonight. We missed a lot of spares that we shouldn’t have,” Smale said. “We’re going to come back and practice the heck out of spares, that’s for sure.”
Berkheimer echoed the sentiment.
“We really need to practice spares, because that’s still our struggle. Our first game, we only shot 680 which isn’t that good because of the spares that we should have picked up,” he said.
Boulder City took a week off from the lanes because of midterm exams, but returns to action Tuesday against Desert Pines at the Silver Nugget in Las Vegas. The Eagles conclude their regular season Jan. 22 against Del Sol at Boulder Bowl.
Boulder City has bowled well for most of the season, but a recent lack of consistency has the team concerned as the postseason looms.
“We hope that we cannot only have that hot spot at the end of the matches, but we want that at the beginning as well,” Berkheimer said. “We just have to keep our momentum and not lose it.”
The Lady Eagles struggled for the second straight match and were unable to take a single point from Tech. Boulder City’s third game of 453 was the closest Boulder City came to victory, but it wasn’t enough against Tech’s 475.
Alexis Cable’s 339 series was high for the Lady Eagles.
