Each week, coaches at Boulder City High School nominate an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week there are two honorees: senior Emily Owens, a member of the girls varsity bowling team, and junior Dillon Viera, a member of the varsity wrestling team.
As part of last year’s team, Owens was instrumental in helping the girls to a state runner-up finish, as well as competing in the regional finals her first two years on the team. This season she has served as an inspiration for her teammates and worked to improve her scores. She also is on the school’s swim team and a member of the band, marching band and orchestra. Emily is the daughter of Sam and Susie Owens.
Viera had a 9-2 record for the week, placing seventh in the Toughest Tour in San Diego with more than 50 teams participating. Coach Jim Cox praised Viera’s work ethic and attitude. Dillon is the son of Rich and Leslie Viera.
