Lend A Hand appreciates support

Lend A Hand thanks the three tour companies in Boulder City that donated tours again this year for our raffle. The funds raised will help support our volunteer driver’s reimbursement program.

Our sincere thanks to all of you who purchased a raffle ticket, thus making this another successful fundraising project.

The prizes and winners are: 1. Serenity Helicopters Grand Canyon floor and picnic won by Paul Fava; 2. Grand Canyon South Rim flight won by Cassy Stevens; and 3. 5 Star Helicopter night flight over the Las Vegas Strip was won by Paul Ruhl. Each of the flights were for two.

Boulder City is very blessed that our businesses step up and support our many nonprofits. These three tour operators have gone above and beyond supporting Lend A Hand two years in a row. Again, I say thank you.

Elimination of military promotion not appreciated

A special thanks goes out to Mr. Joe DeSimone, the fairly new owner of the Railroad Pass hotel and casino, for remembering the active duty and retired military and families during this holiday season.

The Railroad Pass did have a special club card member recognition program for military and their families each Wednesday, whereby they would be credited double points on by playing casino games. However, I was informed on Wednesday, Dec. 16, the two-times points program for military on Wednesdays had been eliminated as, “There are too many other promotions going on, so management decided to eliminate the promotion for all military.”

So again, from a retired Army member and Vietnam vet with a service-connected disability, and from all other military members, thanks to you Mr. DeSimone and to the Railroad Pass management for your support of the military. I am sure the elimination of this particular recognition will result in tremendous savings.

Sad day for America

Today, a Clark County District Court judge declared that my U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs-issued identification card for my adjudicated service-connected disabilities is meaningless.

Furthermore, the judge said that my Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles-issued handicapped placard is irrelevant within the meaning of the American with Disabilities Act and the Federal Housing Act for reasonable accommodation to park my van in my driveway.

Fifth-grader wants to learn about Nevada

Dear people of the great state of Nevada,

Greetings. My name is Natalie and I am a fifth-grade student at Salida Elementary School in Salida, Calif. We live in the central valley, located east of San Francisco.

This year we are to each complete a state project. I picked Nevada. I am asking for any and all information from and about your great state of Nevada to be sent to me.

If you would, please send me any postcards, articles, maps, pictures, pins, pencils, posters, pamphlets or any other special items from Nevada for my project. My school address is: Natalie A. in care of Mr. Howell’s 5th grade, Salida Elementary School, 4519 Finney Road, Salida, CA 95368.

I really appreciate your help in making my project the best. I am lucky to have and learn about an awesome state like Nevada.

Natalie A.
