Sunrise Rotary wishes to thank the parents, guardians and families of the 130-plus graduating seniors of the Boulder City High School class of 2013 for allowing us to entertain and care for your young folks at the all-night drug- and alcohol-free graduation party following the commencement exercise. The entire group, including the 25 Sunrise chaperones, enjoyed the venues and all safely arrived back at the high school around 6 a.m. June 6. Ask a graduate about his or her experience. We thank the entire community for supporting our annual WurstFest where proceeds fund the all-night grad party as well as helping to fund more than 30 other worthy community wide causes. We hope to see you in the park the last Saturday of September.

Flower’s taken
from wife’s grave
This letter covers an extremely sensitive and depressing issue. I lost my wife and partner to COPD just over 22 months ago. We chose as her, and eventually my, final resting place the Boulder City Cemetery. For all of these 22-plus months we have maintained a bouquet of flowers on her grave. I learned early on that the Boulder City maintenance team regularly mows the grass in the cemetery each Thursday, so I always pick up the flowers on Wednesday and return them on Friday.
I followed this procedure the past week placing a small U.S. flag on her grave in honor of Flag Day. I drove by late Friday and both the flag and flowers were intact. Sunday when I went down to pick up the flag it was still there, but much to my surprise and disgust someone had stolen the flowers from my late wife’s grave. I personally put these flowers down and know for certain that they had to be taken and could not have just blown away.
How a person would stoop to stealing flowers off a loved one’s grave just boggles my mind. I have lived in Boulder City for over 30 years and do not think for a moment one of our regular residents would stoop this low so it must have been a passer through. Incidentally, Boulder City does an outstanding job, in my opinion, maintaining this cemetery and could not be expected to protect the flowers and other memorials we leave there from common thieves.

Dog park poker run success
See Spot Run would like to thank all the community businesses and volunteers who made the Third Annual See Spot Poker Run on June 1 a huge success. Not only did we raise money for much needed maintenance, we saw our old friends and met new people, all while helping out our favorite dog park in Boulder City, See Spot Run. A crucial piece to our success were our volunteers who were stationed outside of Boulder Bowl, Boulder Dam Brewing Company, Grandma Daisy’s, The Coffee Cup, Tony’s Pizza, The Back Sports Pub, Milo’s, Jack’s Place, Evans and Dillinger’s. A big thank you to those businesses that allowed us to use their tables and store fronts and the many volunteers who manned those stations.
Our successful and jammed-packed raffle basket included donations from Paradise Tans, Dr. Tad Tenney, Bella Salon, Susan Stark, Edies and Sher-lo Flowers, Anytime Fitness, Sherry Cole, Kare by Kathy, Mary Kay by Lynn Ann Blandford, Sara Ford Fotos, Dr. Jill Potter, Pete of Essentially Tough, Terra Sue Reid, Sandra of Life Force, Southwest Diner and Maureen Avery.
The main Poker Run station was at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company and the band made up of Charlie Deitrich, Michael Haney, Anthony Bronsdon, Tristin Sanders, Donna M. Burt continuously let people know about the poker run and encourage them to participate. Thank you!
See Spot Run is grateful to everyone who contributed their time, space, energy, products and funds. When all was said and done and we paid our expenses we now have a much needed $976 to spend on maintaining and improving our dog park.
We all enjoyed seeing one another and had a great evening with the many who came to support the dog park. It truly was a community effort.
