Veterans home volunteers recognized for service

The Nevada State Veterans Home hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on April 19. The home’s 100-plus volunteers donated more than 12,000 hours of love in 2013.

The home’s volunteers are respected and appreciated. Through their companionship, attentiveness, warmth and assistance, they enhance the overall quality of life for residents at the home. Their donation of time and talent is valued by team members, residents, visitors, and family members.

The volunteer program was established to support the home’s mission of “Caring for America’s Heroes” by integrating well-trained, highly motivated and deeply committed volunteers with NSVH team members and residents.

We are very excited and proud of the volunteers at the home and are fortunate that so many people give back to our vets.

Police dispatchers praised for professionalism

As president of the Bella Vista Property Owners Association, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Boulder City Police dispatchers (Tina, Ruby, Rose, Jen, Sicily and Kelly) for their professionalism, dedication and compassion they have afforded me and other board members in the past.

I have personally called the BC dispatchers requesting help with different types of issues and I have always received exemplary action on their part. Today was no exception.

The solicitors have once again invaded our area, which is marked with “no solicitation” signs at both entrances. Numerous calls were made to dispatch and each call was addressed in a professional manner and officers responded.

I understand the solicitors were in other parts of Boulder City and, of course, did not have a permit to sell in Boulder City. Each year at this time, the city is invaded by solicitors and shortly thereafter homes are broken into.

In the past years, the police have responded and escorted the individuals out of our area. However, this time they did not escort them out of the area, but allowed them to remain in the area.

I would like to see an ordinance, regulation or some type of action taken to discourage the solicitors. It appears that companies bring these young people needing a job and them turn them loose in our town with no water, no transportation, no phones and no true identification.

This is truly an injustice for these young people and the companies need to be punished, through fines or whatever means possible. If others feel the same as I do, please speak up and let the city know how you feel on this subject.

Thank you for the opportunity to express both my thanks and concerns.

Musick offers thanks for support as she prepares to move

This is a very exciting time for me as I am moving to Williams, Ariz., May 30. Bob and I have been in Boulder City since 1983 and have enjoyed living here and made many friends. Now that Bob is gone, it is time for me to be closer to family.

I will miss everyone here and at the library where I have worked for five years.

I will also miss the years I have spent supporting our troops in Afghanistan. That has been very rewarding and such a pleasure.

The donations that are left will be sent to a hospital in Hawaii for the wounded that need prostheses. Col. John R. Bates will be sure that the money is used for this cause.

I want to thank all the businesses and residents that have been so faithful to support our fighting warriors and to Marc Smereck for her help and the use of her garage.

Boulder City is a fantastic town to live in and I will miss it.

Williams is very nice and seasonal and that will be a big change for me and I am looking forward to it.

Thank you to those who were there for me when I lost Bob in December 2012 and my daughter in 2013. It made the losses so much easier.

I will be back for visits and hope to stay in touch with many of you. There will be a new email address and I will be sure it is available to anyone who wants to stay in touch.

Thank you again for a wonderful 31 years of happy times.
