A 14-year-old dirt bike rider from Canyon City, Colo., died Thursday on State Route 165, just outside Boulder City limits near Nelson, after colliding with a vehicle, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.
The male rider was coming out of the desert and crossing the road near mile marker eight when he was struck by a Dodge pickup truck, Trooper Loy Hixson said. Highway patrol received a call at 2:25 p.m. The boy was later pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured or arrested, he said.
“At this point it does not appear driver of truck was at fault,” Hixson said.
The accident is still under investigation by highway patrol, he said.
The rider and his family were camping in an RV near the accident site.
