U.S. Minority Leader Harry Reid recently announced a $2.2 million federal grant he acquired to help improve veteran housing across Nevada.
The Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs departments provided the grant that will be allocated across the Silver State.
“No veteran in Nevada or across America should be homeless after sacrificing so much to protect our freedoms,” said Reid, D-Nev. “Nevada has one of the largest veterans populations in the nation, and I take my responsibility to care for these brave men and women seriously.”
Of the $2.2 million, $1.9 million will go to the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the Southern Nevada VA Health Care System. About $56,000 will go to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority and the Sierra Nevada VA Health Care System.
The grant is given based on geographic need and public housing agency administrative performance, according to a statement from Reid’s office.
