It appears that spring has sprung and we are officially on the way to another great summer.
I’d like to take a minute to talk about fishing and how it just might affect you. We are having a little local fishing going on and it doesn’t involve any water! It appears that the pond is the free-standing mailboxes located around town and the fish is your bill payment! It never ceases to amaze me how much time and effort some people put in to a life of crime — it would take much less effort to just get a job. The sport involves a long piece of string and something sticky and ends with your check being altered and cashed to someone you do not know. The names and dollar amounts are being altered and the account numbers are of special importance for future transactions.
Be smart and use your online bill pay, arrange automatic payments when you are able, or many companies use phone systems that allow payments to be made by phone. It will make it much less likely that you will be become a victim. If all else fails and you still need to use the paper check method, take the envelope inside to mail — just in case.
April 28. Suspicious: The caller states there may be some illegal activity going on at a local house and the owner is out of town at 10:27 a.m. in the 1400 block of Esther Drive.
Vehicle crash: The reporting party states one of the vehicles behind her disappeared after a big rig passed them and she thinks they may have wrecked at 9:38 p.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 95 near mile marker 37.
Thought for the day: The driver of the one vehicle rollover was grateful that other drivers pay attention to their rearview mirrors.
April 29. Fraud: The caller states a credit card has been charged with unauthorized amounts and believes their identity has been compromised at 3:33 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
Drugs: The smell of marijuana is wafting from the windows on the traffic stop and the driver can’t seem to remember why he would have warrants at 9:28 p.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: I’m not sure if drugs affect memory; however, it certainly isn’t helping.
April 30. DUI: A report of a vehicle all over the road ends up being a possible medical episode at 8:36 a.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 95 and Silver Line Road.
Suspicious: The neighbors are growing weary with the shenanigans going on at this residence and the owner appears to be just capable enough to convince caregivers things are A-OK at 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Joy Lane.
Thought for the day: We would much rather receive a phone call about possible abuse or neglect than risk the fact that exploitation is happening, so keep up the neighborhood watch.
May 1. Family disturbance: The subject in the lobby wants to report that after a fight the other party tried to “run him down” at 11:32 a.m. in the 1300 block of Fifth Street.
Wanted: A man on foot tries to outmaneuver the officer he is speaking with at 2:44 p.m. in the 800 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: It’s much easier going to jail without the road rash.
May 2. Vehicle burglary: The vehicle owner discovers his tools missing when he arrives to work but locates them (and a bunch of other items) in the bushes behind his complex when he returns home at 3:03 p.m. in the 1300 block of Capri Drive.
Burglary: The caller reports he returned home to find it ransacked and many items missing at 5:42 p.m. in the 1000 block of Marjay Court.
Thought for the day: The good part about crimes committed in this day and age is the tools at our disposal involving foot and tire prints as well as cameras.
May 3. Recovered stolen vehicle: The vehicle recovered turns out to be a complicated matter between two people at 2:07 a.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Suspicious: The two kids who arrive home reporting that a man on a skateboard seemed to be following them from the Oasis Park area at 5:14 p.m. in the 1400 block of Marita Drive.
Thought for the day: A good check of the area provided no suspects, but the kids did a great job in following home safety rules and gave great descriptions.
May 4. Animal: A large tortoise makes its way into the roadway and is quickly dispatched to a more safe area at 5:33 p.m. in the area of Black Canyon Court and Keys Drive.
Suspicious: The caller believes a transient left her belongings on the sidewalk in front of her house at 6:22 p.m. in the 1200 block of Wyoming Street.
Thought for the day: The owner of the items on the sidewalk is moving them individually and advises they will be gone soon.
Call of the week: Fire: The phone lines light up with reports of a big fire at the trailer park and it is affecting traffic nearby as the smoke is thick. It turns out to be just a very flooded and damaged engine starting up and the wind takes care of the situation on May 2 at 4:46 p.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
