Boulder City Police Department is warning area residents about a new scam.
Sgt. Lisa Byrd said there have been reports of people going door to door in local neighborhoods claiming they have done repairs to the home’s roof and demanding immediate payment.
The scam artists were traveling in a vehicle without a ladder, making it impossible for them to perform any type of work on a roof, Byrd said.
“If you do not have a contract ahead of time and the job has not be completed, they shouldn’t be asking for money,” she said. “Generally speaking, you should have an agreement to have work done on your home. No one should be working on anyone’s house without prior approval.”
Byrd said the scam artists are known to be pushy and have entered people’s home without permission.
The police department was first notified about the scam by a local woman who discovered the suspects in her mother’s home rooting through her personal belongings.
“By the time we were notified, they were gone,” Byrd said.
She said there have been several reports about the scam, and she suspects there are more victims who haven’t contacted the department.
“Homeowners should feel free to call the police department if someone knocks on the door who they don’t recognize and when they are not comfortable answering,” she said.
