Don’t you just love it when you walk into a local retailer and see Christmas trees all set up and shiny bright — just in time for Easter? It seems that the “seasons” run into each other, disturbed only by the occasional teardown day from the last one.
With that in mind, I’d like to remind you of something you may want to add to your schedule for this fall. The Citizens Academy is rolling back into town in September. If you haven’t had the chance to attend this miniacademy, you have really been missing something.
The Boulder City Police’s Citizens Academy is a program that gives citizens a unique insight into the life and training of a Boulder City police officer. The class meets one day a week for 10 consecutive weeks from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Participants may miss only one class and must live or work in Boulder City.
There are at least two special event classes held besides the regular classroom and practical learning environment during which the students will have the option to experience hands-on or real world exercises.
Most classes will consist of classroom time and field experience in locations in the Boulder City area. Classes will be limited to 25 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All candidates will undergo a background check and will need to submit fingerprints allowing them to enter restricted areas.

Feb. 12. Domestic: A subject is in the lobby to report being assaulted by her daughter on the way to school this morning. A report is taken after interviews with both subjects at 12:52 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
DUI: There is a report of an intoxicated female trying to leave the location. The woman will be getting a personal driver to the Henderson cross-bar detox center at 12:15 p.m. in the 700 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: Driving while intoxicated is a crime and no matter how big of fuss you make or how uncooperative you are, we’re going to do our best to keep you and others safe.
Feb. 13. Juvenile disturbance: There are reports of kids setting off fireworks and firing a BB gun. A parent is educated on the law and the kids are sternly warned at 8:33 a.m. in the 600 block of Utah Street.
Suspicious: There is a report that a white pickup truck keeps moving around the parking lot with a male inside. The subject says he is waiting for someone and avoiding the sun at 4:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Adams Boulevard.
Petty larceny: A business owner reports having video of a subject shoplifting numerous times. An officer will follow up with the charges at 8:28 p.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: Just because you made it out the door with the goods in your pocket, doesn’t mean you’re successful. You may well be sporting a new silver pair of bracelets soon.
Feb. 14. Traffic: Several subjects were surprised to receive an expensive reminder about yielding to a subject in a crosswalk. Someone’s loved one depends on you paying attention at 8:34 a.m. in the 800 block of Nevada Way.
Domestic: There is a report that a man and woman are outside fighting and both have blood visible and sound intoxicated. One subject is transported to the hospital and the other is cited at 8:55 p.m. in the 600 block of Utah Street.
Thought for the day: Alcohol and discussing relationship issues do not mix. Both people could end up in the hospital or worse. Just agree to disagree and pick a better time.
