Schams resigns from planning commission
Boulder City resident and land developer, Randy Schams has resigned from the city’s planning commission.
Schams’ resignation was announced at last Tuesday’s City Council meeting, when the council nominated and appointed his replacement, Steve Walton, as well as a new member of the parks and recreation commission, Peter Ricciardo.
“I’m just too busy right now,” Schams said.
Schams, a prominent land developer in Boulder City who served on the planning commission for about two years, had missed a couple of the board’s meeting so “instead of hurting the city, I stepped down,” he said.
Walton’s term on the planning commission, which handles applications for zone changes and variances, will expire Jan. 1. 2017. Ricciardo’s term on the parks and recreation commission expires 2019.
Heat warning issued for Boulder City
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning to begin Friday and last through the weekend in Boulder City.
Temperatures are expected to climb more than 10 degrees above the normal temperature for this time of year, which is about 93 degrees, said meteorologist Barry Pierce.
Because the town is sitting under a high-pressure system, the air is continually sinking and heating, which means unseasonably warm temperatures for early June, Pierce said.
Excessive heat warnings are issued when temperatures are hot enough that they could pose a risk to people doing strenuous activity outdoors. Children and the elderly are most susceptible to symptoms, “but everyone is at risk of succumbing to heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” Pierce said.
Temperatures Thursday will reach 103 degrees before they inch up to 105 Friday and 107 Saturday. Sunday will see a high of 105 and a high of 100 degrees is forecast Monday.
Nighttime lows will be in the low 80s all weekend, Pierce said.
The Weather Service recommends doing outside work in the early morning or evening, wearing light clothing, drinking a lot of water and staying inside when possible.
